Girls Weekend 2010

Three of my very best friends and I have taken an annual girls weekend trip for the past 5 years now. This year we decided to go to Fredericksburg, TX. Heather, Britni, and Carrie all live in the Dallas area so I met them in Fredericksburg last Friday. We rented a house for Friday and Saturday and I took off work and left early Friday morning so we could spend the whole day together.

Carrie and Heather drove to Britni's house and they all rode together to Fredericksburg. The drive to Fredericksburg was so beautiful.....I love the Texas hill country! I was enjoying myself so much, riding with the windows down, and listening to the radio that I didn't realize I was going a little over the speed limit :) I got pulled over when I was about 15 minutes away and I tried the whole batting my eyes thing, but all the cop said was, "I will be right back with your citation!" :) This was my first ticket in years and I did cruise control all the way home! I will be busy next weekend watching a defensive driving video :) Thank God for all the cops out there who keep us safe on the road! Britni, Heather, and Carrie got there before me and ate lunch and shopped a little. I met them on Main Street and we shopped some more since the weather was so nice!

Shops on Main Street

Fredericksburg is such a cute little town! It was the perfect choice for a girls weekend. I knew that there were shops on Main Street, but I had no idea how many. They went on and on as far as you can see. There were antique shops, trendy boutiques, cafes', coffee shops, candy shops, a general store, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, and everything in between. It was every girls dream place to shop!

After we shopped for a while, we went to the house we rented for the weekend to check in. The house was so beautiful! Every room was decorated so nice and we almost just wanted to stay in and enjoy the house all weekend. I want to go back and do that sometime!

After we unpacked at the house we went back to Main Street for supper. We were walking and saw this sign for the Friendship Shop and had our picture taken under it. This is one of my favorite pictures from the weekend.

We found this great place to eat and sat outside. The weather couldn't have been more perfect to eat outside and they even had live music. It was so crowded that we had to wait almost two hours to get our food, but it was worth it! We weren't in a hurry anyway and it gave us a chance to catch up.

I love live music and the guy singing was amazing..he sang mostly old country songs and they sounded just like the original to me.

That night a strong cold front came through and it rained and rained all night long. At one point the thunder woke me up and I thought it was hailing outside it was so bad. Fredericksburg has a huge Trade Days that comes once a month and we happened to be there that weekend, so we were planning on going on Saturday. I was totally not prepared for the cold. I looked at the weather before I packed and it said that there would be scattered thunderstorms and cooler weather on Saturday, but I didn't dream it would be as cold as it was. Luckily, Britni packed extra scarves and gloves so we all bundled up and headed out to the trade days come snow, rain, or shine! We were serious Trade Day Shoppers :)

Ready for Trade Days

With our rental property we got breakfast vouchers to eat at certain restaurants on Main Street so we went to the Java Ranch for breakfast before we headed to the Trade Days.

We were told to get out to the Trade Days early to get a parking spot, but the weather was so cold we didn't have any problem getting a spot. We were the only crazy ones braving the winds and cold! It was muddy, windy, and freezing, but the Trade Days went on. For some of the people that have booths it is their only income so they set up no matter what. Most of the booths were in these big covered pavilions so it was little warmer, but I never could have made it without gloves, my jacket, and a scarf. Some of the booths had heaters set up and we would go and stand under it for a while and then move on. The wind was so strong that we could hear it hitting the metal roof of the pavilions and at times it sounded as if it was going to take the roof off. There were even snow flurries outside at one point. It was worth going out there because we found some really cute stuff. I got a summer scarf, a cute necklace, some cute slippers, and shirts for great prices!

Evidently, Fredericksburg is a big place for girls weekends and one of the booths had a pink sign that said "Girls Weekend Fredericksburg, Texas" on it and they would take your picture with the sign for $7. We took our picture and then they asked if they could put it on display in front of their booth. So, I guess we are sort of famous in Fredericksburg now :)

After we shopped a while at the Trade Days we went back to Main Street to eat lunch and go shopping some more.

We ate lunch at Wheelers and it was so good!

Carrie did some research and found out that Luckenbach, TX was only 15 minutes away so we went there after we finished shopping. The only thing I knew about Luckenbach was from the old county song by Waylon Jennings called "Back to the Basics.' I couldn't get that song out of my head after we went there.

As you enter the town there is a sign that says, Luckenbach "population 3"! The whole town sits on just a few acres with a post office in the center. The post office has also has a general store and saloon in it. There is also an old-fashioned Texas dance hall, hat shop, and music stage. It is like taking a trip back in time.

The Cowboy Hat Shop

The Dance Hall..it made me want to put cowboy boots on and do some two steppin :)

The Stage...Willie Nelson has played here several times before at the annual Fourth of July picnic

After Luckenbach we went to Wal Mart and bought a frozen pizza, snacks to eat and a movie to watch. We were tired and just wanted to relax a little and enjoy the house. We watched The Proposal...I could watch that movie over and over again and laugh every time. Heather just found out the week before that she is pregnant and she was ready to sit and relax a little! I am so excited for her, she has two girls and they are so excited for a new baby brother or sister.

Me and Heather

On Sunday, we went shopping again and we still didn't get to go to all of the shops. After lunch we left and went to Britni's house in Weatherford. I was so excited to get to see Pierson. He just turned one year old and I hadn't seen him since July. I couldn't wait to give him his birthday present and play with him.

Pierson helping me open his birthday present. I got him two outfits and a book. I joked afterwards that I should have got hin a remote control because I found out that he loves to play with their remote. He had all these toys on the floor to play with and all he wanted was the remote. He also loved playing with the box his gift came in!

Me feeding Pierson

Pierson loves to play, "I'm going to get you" and we crawled all over the house with me chasing him. I love this picture because he crawled into the corner and was trapped and he thought it was so funny! He is too cute and I had so much fun getting to see his little personality.

This was one of the sweetest moments when Brini and I were watching a movie and Pierson came over to me in the chair and wanted to sit with me ( I think he secrelty thouught I had the remote :). He layed with me for a while and I loved it.

Me and my "birthday buddy"

I always have such a great time getting together with Heather, Britni, and Carrie. We all met in college and we have seen each other through good times and hard times since then. I am so blessed to have them in my life. I know that God put each one of them in my life and I am so thankful for that! They are not just friends but more like sisters to me. I know that I can tell them anything and they would not judge me but love me uncoonditionally and that is not easy to find. I look forward to many more years of girls weekends.
